Alexa just got a serious AI upgrade. Apple's Siri Overhaul Delayed Until 2027
Apple's ambitious plan to modernize Siri with advanced AI capabilities has encountered significant delays.The fully revamped version is now expected no sooner than iOS 20, possibly arriving in 2027.
Contributing factors to the delay include:
Developmental Challenges: Integrating large language models into Siri's existing framework has proven complex.
Internal Issues: Apple's AI division has faced leadership struggles and staff departures to competitors, hindering progress.
Equipment Shortages: Limited access to necessary AI chips has slowed development.
In the interim, Apple plans to release an upgrade utilizing large language models in iOS 18.5.However, this will function separately from the existing Siri framework and may not operate seamlessly.
